Acne Awareness Month

June marks acne awareness month, an opportunity to raise awareness about one of the most common yet often misunderstood skin conditions. Affecting people of all ages, acne can have a profound impact on confidence and self-image. Despite how widespread it is, there’s still a lot of confusion around what acne is, what causes it, and how best to manage it.

At Paragon, we know many of our clients suffer from acne and even our practitioners themselves. That’s why we offer treatments that support skin health. While our solutions can be effective for mild to moderate acne, more severe or persistent cases, such as cystic acne, may require medical treatment from a GP or dermatologist.

What is acne and who does it affect?

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects many people of all ages. Contrary to popular belief you can develop acne at any stage of life, not just in your teenage years.

Acne causes a variety of spots and blackheads, oily skin and can be very painful depending on the severity. Acne is caused by a blockage in the pores, which could be triggered due to external factors such as sweat or cosmetics, or even internal factors such as hormones. Despite the rumours, acne isn’t caused by ‘poor hygiene’ or ‘dirty skin’ and it’s reported that acne isn’t caused by a poor diet either.

The areas that are most affected by acne are the face, chest and neck area.

How can it be helped?

Although acne can never be fully cured, here at Paragon Aesthetics, we have a few solutions to help support skin health.

Medical grade skincare

Look to invest in medical-grade skin care. Medical grade skin care such as skin care from GetHarley is designed to target deeper layers of the skin that over-the-counter products simply can’t reach. Because of this the results are fast-acting and longer-lasting. We’ve seen countless patients who have controlled their acne breakouts thanks to GetHarley.

Navigating the skincare world can be overwhelming and we understand that many of our patients feel uncertain about choosing the right products. In a recent survey, while 28% of our patients felt content with their skincare routine, 36% shared that they felt overwhelmed by too many options and 25% reported frequently changing products. To address this, we introduced the GetHarley skincare concierge service. This personalised service simplifies skin care choices, ensuring our patients get the best, most effective products for their unique skin concerns.

LED phototherapy

LED phototherapy uses LED wavelengths to help treat acne and reduce inflammation. The LED light machine provides a relaxing session of up to 30 minutes, where the pain-free wavelengths delivered to the skin will supercharge the cell functions and accelerate the skin’s rejuvenation and repair process. This treatment is suitable for all skin types and does not cause burning.

With acne also comes acne scarring. But don’t worry, we have treatments to help combat scarring.

Radiofrequency microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling is a collagen-boosting treatment. The treatment combines two of the most effective skin rejuvenation treatments, radiofrequency and microneedling, during which tiny sterile needles create microscopic punctures in the skin to deliver radiofrequency energy to specific depths within the skin. This heats the tissues and in response, more collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are produced, working wonders to repair scarring.

By targeting the root of acne scarring at a cellular level, the treatment offers hope to those struggling with long-standing skin texture challenges, demonstrating how advanced aesthetic technologies can restore not just skin appearance but personal confidence.

SkinPen microneedling

SkinPen microneedling, otherwise known as collagen induction therapy, is a treatment that works deep within the epidermis and dermis to rejuvenate the skin’s natural appearance.

SkinPen microneedling has FDA approval for acne scarring, being the first microneedling device to receive this classification. The clearance was supported by a clinical study showing that 55% of patients experienced clinically meaningful improvement in acne scars at six months post-treatment.

The treatment regenerates the production of new collagen and elastin whilst stimulating the production of healthy new cells, which is why it’s a great option to treat acne scarring.
