The Paragon Effect – Becci's experience with lip filler dissolving

In this case study we’ll be revealing how Dr. Chloe transformed our patient Becci’s lips following overfilled treatment by her previous practitioner.

Lip filler can look very natural when treated appropriately, and the natural look is always something we aim for when treating our patients. Becci came to us with concerns of how she began to feel her previous lip filler migrated, creating an unnatural and over filled appearance. Following discussions with Dr. Chloe, Becci decided to go ahead and dissolve lip filler, embarking on a journey to a more natural lip filler result.

So, let’s look at her lip filler treatment with us:

Consultation

  • Initial consultation to discuss concerns, expectations and what Becci wanted to gain from treatment
  • Becci was looking for a new practitioner to trust after her previous practitioner was no longer able to treat her

Presenting complaints

  • Becci believed her lips were over filled and looking out of proportion
  • She thought her lips were very firm and hard
  • She wanted more natural-looking lips

Facial assessment determined by Dr. Chloe

  • Filler migration onto white borders above the lips
  • 1:1 ratio of the upper and lower lips
  • Firm lumps within lips from previous lip filler

Treatment process

  • Initial assessment to discuss expectations and what was possible from treatment
  • Lip filler dissolving session (includes a 20 minute allergy test to check there are no reactions and ensure dissolving agent can be used)
  • Dental blocks placed to ensure pain free treatment
  • Filler dissolving agent injected into areas of concern, firm massaging and repeated where necessary
  • Patient stays in clinic for 20 minutes post-procedure to ensure there are no reactions
  • Patient returns 2 weeks later for refilling of lips
  • Dental blocks placed for pain free injections
  • 1ml of lip filler placed using combination of cannula and needle techniques

Treatment plan

When dissolving lip fillers, it should never be dissolved and refilled in the same day, despite what many non-medical practitioners are claiming to offer, as the hyaluronidase used to dissolve the filler, would then break down the new filler injected. Understanding the importance of staging treatment over various appointments for this reason, Becci went ahead on a treatment plan of:

  • Appointment 1 – initial consultation
  • Appointment 2 (May 2023) – filler dissolving using hyaluronidase
  • Appointment 3 (June 2023) – review 2 weeks later and dissolve more if required or refill with 1ml
  • Appointment 4 – review 4-6 months later for further dermal filler if required or desired by patient
Becci’s lip filler dissolve before and after transformation

This is what Becci had to say after her treatment: “I’d been having lip filler done for several years but my practitioner was no longer available to treat me and I needed someone I could trust to take over, as I was worried about making things worse or things going wrong. I explained my situation to Dr. Chloe and I couldn’t tell her how much filler I had because it had been so long, but she could see that my current result was too firm and unnatural. She recommended we dissolve and start again with something a bit more subtle. I was initially really nervous about having dissolved lips for a number of weeks, but she was absolutely right, I hadn’t realised how firm and unnatural my lips had become over that time.”

Many of our clients often ask is lip filler dissolving painful or does lip filler dissolving hurt? You may see articles online claiming that lip filler dissolving is painful, when in fact the discomfort is really manageable. So don’t be put off getting filler dissolved over the worry that it might be painful. In clinic we will always discuss anaesthetic options with you, we usually find that patients who undergo lip filler dissolver with just numbing cream find the discomfort more manageable than the original lip filler treatment. Once we discussed the anaesthetic options with Becci, we decided to use dental block to make the lip filler dissolving process painless, here’s what she had to say:

“Being completely numbed with dental block was a massive bonus, it meant I knew I wasn’t going to move around and Chloe could do what she needed to do more freely. Following treatment with Dr. Chloe my lips feel much more natural now and are actually more like what I’d wanted in the first instance. I’d absolutely recommend Dr. Chloe to anyone – she clearly has the expertise but also the experience to be able to discuss what it is you want and advise appropriately.”
